The team at AH Interiorst is here to help you select the perfect flooring for your home or business. We can help you discover the choices that are available in terms of types of flooring, how suitable it is for your needs and other options such as durability and care.
There’s something very special about allowing your feet to sink into the deep pile of a new carpet. Which qualities should you look for when making your choice? Knowing the basic types of carpeting will make it easier to decide which is appropriate for your purposes.
Carpet Fibre Choice
Carpets can be pure wool, wool blended with synthetic fibres or 100% synthetic. The type of fibre affects the durability of the carpet. You might have a preference for the texture or ‘feel’ of the carpet, so come to Carpet Giant to experience our wide range of carpeting options for yourself. Wool is luxurious and copes well with everyday wear and tear. Synthetic fibres are pleasantly soft to the touch and come in an enormous variety of colours. Blended fibres bring the best of both worlds.
Generally, a heavier weight of carpet has greater resistance to flattening or compression from foot traffic or furniture. Typically a 40oz or 50oz carpet would be a good choice for a hall and staircase, and a lighter 30oz carpet would be more suitable for bedrooms. Weight also affects the cost of the carpet. A heavy wool carpet will be more costly initially, but a wise long-term investment as it will wear better over the years.
Related to weight, the lower a carpet’s tog rating, the less insulation it provides. A low tog carpet is suitable for underfloor heating. A higher tog rating provides better insulation. We can help you choose which is best for your home – just ask our expert advisors.
Twist pile carpets are both resilient and easy to care for so are perfect for lounges and busy areas of the home. Heather twist carpets come in a wider range of colour choices than plain twist so you’ll be able to find the perfect match for your colour scheme.
The Saxony name is synonymous with luxury and high quality – a truly indulgent choice. For an elegant look and feel that’s not limited to bedrooms and lower traffic areas, Saxony is the perfect option.
Loop pile is a wonderful choice to add texture to your flooring and comes in a variety of lengths, colours, plain or berber effect. It’s hardwearing and suitable for most areas of the home.
Axminster and Wilton
Axminster and Wilton are high quality, usually woollen carpets and rugs with a woven pattern in a wide variety of colours. They were originally made in the towns of the same names but are now produced worldwide.
Colours and patterns
Synthetic or man-made fibres offer the greatest range of colour options. Patterned carpets are becoming increasingly popular, particularly classic designs and stripes. They provide an opportunity to introduce a statement splash of colour against a neutral or contrasting décor. Ask us about measuring up accurately when wanting to match patterns or stripes in large rooms.
Look for stain resistance protection that helps to maintain a carpet’s good looks. Some carpets are also cleanable (not bleachable) – ask us for our expert advice. We do stock the followinng bleach cleanable brands; Carefree, Stainfree, Stainguard and Stainaway.
Measuring Your Room
It’s important to measure your room accurately, especially in older properties where walls might not be completely straight. You also need to allow for alcoves, doorway recesses and bay windows. If you’re not confident about this, we can help. Our experienced team offer a free home consultation with measuring service and can bring carpet samples to your home. Just Book an Appointment with us and we’ll do the rest.
